curcumin label trick

The Number Most Turmeric Labels Don't Want You to Ask About

You've seen the claims. "300 capsules." "High strength." "Made in Australia." Big numbers, bold fonts, orange packaging that promises to fix your knees by Tuesday.

But here's the question almost nobody asks when they're standing in the health food aisle, or scrolling past another turmeric ad at 9pm: what percentage of that turmeric is actually curcumin?

Because that number — not the milligrams of turmeric powder, not the capsule count, not the price per bottle — is the one that actually matters.

Turmeric ≠ Curcumin

Turmeric root, in its raw dried form, contains curcumin at somewhere around 2–5% of its total weight. Curcumin is the compound doing the anti-inflammatory work your joints are hoping for. The rest of that turmeric root — the other 95%+ — is essentially inert filler as far as joint pain is concerned. Fibre, starch, colour.

So when a supplement label boasts "6,000mg of turmeric," the honest follow-up question is: 6,000mg of what, exactly? If it's raw turmeric at ~5% curcumin, you're getting roughly 300mg of the compound you're actually paying for. If it's a standardised extract at 95% curcuminoids, that same 6,000mg-equivalent dose delivers dramatically more of the active ingredient your body needs.

This isn't a small difference. It's the difference between a supplement that's mostly marketing and one that's mostly medicine.

What we do differently

Every Bio Balance capsule is built from a 40X concentrated organic turmeric extract, equivalent to 6,000mg of raw turmeric rhizome — standardised to 95%+ curcuminoids, delivering 112.5mg of actual curcumin per capsule. We pair that with a 54X concentrated black pepper extract (piperine) to help your body actually absorb it, plus 1,000mg-equivalent of ginger and a full day's vitamin C.

Every batch is independently tested by ALS, one of Australia's leading NATA-accredited laboratories, for heavy metals and microbial safety — so what's on the label is what's actually in the capsule. It's also Certified Organic, TGA Listed, and made right here in Australia.

One capsule. Once a day. No guessing about what percentage of it is doing anything.

The takeaway

Next time you're comparing turmeric supplements — ours or anyone else's — skip past the mg-of-turmeric number on the front of the pack and look for the curcuminoid percentage. If a brand doesn't disclose it, that's worth noticing too.

Move fully. Live freely.
